Do I need a doctor’s referral?

You do not need a doctor’s referral to attend physiotherapy treatment, though your doctor may choose to give you one to help provide us with information that’s useful for your care.

You do need a doctor’s referral if you’ll be claiming your treatment costs from:

  • WorkCover, Comcare and other self-insurers
  • Motor vehicle accident covered by Third Party Insurance (CTP)
  • Enhanced Primary Care Program (EPC); a Medicare subsidised programme
  • Veterans Affairs

Does private health insurance cover physiotherapy?

If you have ancillary or extras cover in your policy, you’ll need to check with your fund with regards to the level of cover. We have the HICAPS system to allow for Health Fund claims at the practice.

Does Medicare cover physiotherapy treatment?

With the introduction of the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) scheme, your doctor may now refer for up to five Allied Health services per year.

The scheduled Medicare fee is charged and this can be claimed back through the HICAPS system on site.

What can I expect from my first consultation?

At your initial consultation, your physiotherapist will conduct a detailed assessment to determine the diagnosis and possible causes of your injury. We’ll then explain the diagnosis to you, along with details about the treatment required, expected recovery time and ongoing self-management strategies to prevent reoccurrence of the problem.

What do I bring to my appointment?

Please bring any referral letters and relevant test results, along with any scans and X-rays.

What are the financial arrangements for payment?

Fees for private patients are due at the time of treatment. HICAPS and EFTPOS facilities are available for automatic claiming through your private health fund. WorkCover, 3rd Party MVA insurance and Veterans Affair patients’ accounts will be sent directly to the appropriate body.
